Jeanette Spicer is a New York based visual artist. She is curious about the photograph as an object, a representation, a memory, a death, a trace and it's ever-changing formal qualities and perception formed by the direct influence of technology and consumerism; which directly informs her aesthetic approach to the work. Her practice is heavily process based, and deeply rooted in the unique formation of "double relationships" that occur while making work with those with whom she is closest: (family members, partners and friends). Although personal, the work is thoughtfully and aesthetically executed to present to a larger audience to create a universal, and accessible conversation around familial relationships, the body, connections and memory. Also using video, she contemplates the meaning of gesture, movement and space in her silent shorts; bringing forth feelings of tension and exploration.
