Devon Dill and Jeanette Spicer:
Our collaborative work involves shared interests around the female body, interest in each other, power, and unique and intimate roles formed throughout our relationship, and specifically, female relationships. We use our environment, female gaze upon female body, and manipulation of the body to puncture boundaries and assumptions focused on societal norms regarding female relationships. In our playful and often humorous approach to the work, we frequently hand the camera back and forth to one another as well as performing in front of the camera together. This exchange of the camera allows for a sharing of power; we are able to let each other see the other as they want. Together in front of the camera, an equitable vulnerability and more spontaneous way of working begins as we come into the frame together, to bring life to our collaborative thoughts. Our two approaches allows for more breathing room, complexity, and exploration into our collaboration.
